Public Education at the Fore

Leveraging value-driven craftsmanship and public education resources, Emerge Studio, a multidisciplinary team led by landscape architect educators, is guiding production according to Cradle to Cradle, the sustainable design dictum of William McDonough and Michael Braungart. A collaborative teaching and research initiative through the landscape architecture departments of Rutgers - The State University of New Jersey and University of Idaho, Emerge Studio has incorporated the United States exhibition into undergraduate curriculum. They are instrumental in researching and recommending exhibition venues, exhibition design and materials, with careful attention to a multi-point criteria that ranges from context and sense of place to accessibility and event flow. For the New York City debut, Emerge Studio assessed 11 different locations with a team of students, instructors, designers, and scientist to establish criteria for the Earth From Above site selection nationwide.

Translating the sustainable narrative into built form, BKSK Architects has designed the exhibit photo display structure to both highlight the remarkable aerial images and to reflect their underlying ethos. As one of New York City's recognized sustainable design innovators, BKSK gives consideration to the meaning and consequence of each architectural and engineering decision. They see this exhibit as an opportunity to establish a new benchmark for the sustainable design of large-scale public art.
